History:

Heritage Baptist Church started under the name of "Ashland Baptist Chapel" in 1996 as a mission of Hanley Road Baptist Church. There were eight people present at the church's first meeting. Soon thereafter, the church called Ron Cooper to be its first pastor and began meeting at Ronk Memorial Chapel on the Ashland Theological Seminary campus.

In July of 1998, the church moved from the seminary campus to 735 E. 8th St. where they would continue to meet until January of 2003. The church grew from about 12 people to over 30 during the four years on E. 8th St. In July of 2000, the church officially constituted under the name of Heritage Baptist Church. About a year later, in June of 2001, Ron Cooper was called to Providence Baptist Church in Bellevue, Ohio, at which point, Heritage called Ben Roby to be their pastor.

In November of 2001, Heritage began preliminary talks with Calvary Baptist concerning the purchase of their building as Calvary prepared to build a new church on Davis Rd. Over the next year, God's grace and provision paved the way for the purchase of the new building which officially became a reality on November 1, 2002.

In December of 2002, as they prepared for the move to the new building, Heritage called Chris Rufener as their Associate Pastor. Presently, Heritage has 43 members, and several more regular attenders. Heritage has always maintained a close relationship with the campus ministries of Ashland University, and because of this, the college age group is one of Heritage's largest. We look forward to continued growth under God's guidance and our prayer is that this magnificent facility would be used to minister to the community of Ashland.
